Inclusion & Diversity
GIANT EAGLE IS COMMITTED TO RESPECTING AND IMPROVING PEOPLE’S LIVES, WHILE BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE AND DIVERSE COMPANY. FOR US, INCLUSION MEANS EMPOWERING EVERY INDIVIDUAL TO BE THEMSELVES, TO FEEL CONNECTED AND BELIEVE THAT THEIR UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES ARE RESPECTED AND VALUED. DIVERSITY IS DEFINED AS ALL OF THE UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES PEOPLE HAVE BECAUSE OF THEIR BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCES.
Mission & Vision
MISSION: We continue to build an inclusive and diverse workplace to improve people’s everyday lives and well-being. When people feel included, they work better and are more creative. This gives us a strong way to understand our customers, develop innovative solutions, and grow our business.
VISION: Giant Eagle will make better and more informed business decisions when we listen to the diverse perspectives of all Team Members, customers, business partners and shareholders. The Company will look more like the markets we serve, and Team Members will know their contributions are valued.
A Message from Jan Talerico, Chief Diversity Officer
Our commitment to inclusion and diversity is based on our Company’s long-standing Respect for People philosophy and culture, which means we treat everyone with kindness and respect. At Giant Eagle, we firmly believe that simple acts of kindness can change the world around us. Offering our Team Members an inclusive and diverse place to work, and providing our customers and communities a safe and welcoming shopping experience, as well as the freshest and best products available to meet their many diverse needs, are not only the right things to do, but they also make great business sense:
- Our Team Members are more engaged and innovative when their individual perspectives are valued, and they are empowered to be themselves.
- The talent market is increasingly competitive and diverse, and we must demonstrate our commitment to Inclusion & Diversity in order to attract top, diverse talent.
- We need various internal and external perspectives to fully understand the needs of all our customers.
For the past two years, I have worked closely with our Inclusion and Diversity Council to deliver the goals of our three-year strategic plan. Our Inclusion & Diversity scorecard measures our success and is shared quarterly with our CEO, Executive Leadership Team and our Board of Directors.
Our key milestones and tactics have included: attracting, retaining and hiring more diverse candidates, including Team Members who are differently abled; holding our recruiters accountable to filling more diverse slates; and focusing on developing high-potential diverse Team Members.
This year, we will also further develop our diversity supplier strategy. We are looking closely at our current minority-owned business partner spend versus our total supplier spend. We are also redesigning our diversity supplier website.
With ongoing feedback from our Team Members, customers and business partners, we will continue to include diversity as an important factor in the marketing and merchandising of our product categories and services.
We look forward to many more advances in our next three-year plan. I’m confident that; together, we will make our inclusive and diverse Company an even greater place to work and shop!
